International Student Work Permit In Mississauga
Post graduate work permit
Foreign Nationals who have successfully completed a post-secondary program in Canada as international students can apply for their post-graduation work permit (PGWP). With these valid work permits, international students can live and work in the country after completion of their studies.
Requirements:
The following are the requirements for a post-graduation work permit:
- Age should be 18 years at the time of application.
- Must have currently valid study permit.
- Must have graduated from an approved educational institution where you have studied full-time for at least 8 months prior to application (900 hours).
- You must apply within 90 days of receiving (written) a work permit confirming that you have met the requirements and are eligible to graduate the program.
It is important to note that you will not be eligible according to Canadian government regulations if you:
- Study in a program of less than eight months in duration.
- Participate in a Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship Program funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC).
- Participate in the Government of Canada Award Program funded by the GAC.
- Obtaining funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
- Attend Equal Opportunity Scholarship, Canada-Chile.
- Participate in the Canada-China Scholars Exchange Program.
- Participate in the organization of the American States Fellowship Program.
- Participate in a distance education program from abroad or from within Canada.
- A post-graduation work permit has been issued earlier than any other program of study.
Program privileges
This visa will allow you to work in Canada and gain valuable Canadian experience that will be based on the work you have studied in school. Ultimately, it is the first step to being able to qualify for Permanent Residency under very popular Canadian Experience Class (CEC) designation and as such, qualifies for all rights and benefits.

OPEN WORK PERMIT
Typically, for an applicant to work in Canada, they would need a positive LMIA. However, certain individuals are eligible for Open Work Permits and can bypass this requirement.
Foreigners that are eligible for an Open Work permit:
- Spouse/common-law partner being sponsored for Permanent Residence through an Inland Spousal Sponsorship Application.
- Spouse/common-law partner of a Temporary Foreign Worker.
- I.e., if your spouse or common-law partner has a work permit, you can get an open work permit as well.
- Spouse/common-law partners of International Students studying in Canada.
- International Students who recently graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution can apply for a Post-Graduation Open Work Permit.
- International Experience Canada (IEC) Candidates (Working Holiday).
BRIDGING OPEN WORK PERMIT
A bridging open work permit (BOWP) lets you keep working while you wait for the results of your Permanent Residence Application.
You may be eligible if you applied to one of the permanent residence programs below:
- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Class
- Federal Skilled Trades (FST) Class
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)
To be eligible for a bridging open work permit, the following criteria must be met:
- The Foreign National is currently in Canada;
- They have valid status on a work permit that is due to expire within four months.
- THEY ARE THE PRINCIPAL APPLICANT on an application for Permanent Residence under the FSWP, the CEC, the PNP or the FSTP.
- They received a positive eligibility assessment on his or her application i.e., they have ITA and have applied.
